Interview 116 Copyright © David C. Fowler, Nov 2019 Today I was listening to one of the radio talk shows and heard an interesting statistic about Christians in America, it was that over eighty percent of Americans said that they believed in God! I was amazed! He admitted that the pollster simply asked if they believed in God? When the question was if they believed in Jesus, then the numbers changed to about seventy and when it was asked how many attended a church? Then they dropped off more and is continuing. The question is why? I can only speculate, there are a number of reasons, one comes to mind, social media, many of todays young people have become totally wrapped up in their cell-phones, communicating with friends, not to mention their school and work, they dont have time for church. Another reason could be that many of the churches want their members to commit to helping in the church, by teaching Sunday school or bible studies and prayer groups, some people would like that but many don't. I enjoyed attending the churches that have a Pastor that could deliver a good inspiring message, that is a great help in church attendance, also a warm friendly congregation. When I attended my wifes church I suggested that they have a coffee hour after the service, so new attendees could get to know the members, they did that and it was successful. Now many churches feel that if they dress down to levis and tee shirts, it would help, even the pastors! I’m uncomfortable with that, I feel when we visit our Creator, the most powerful being in our world, you should dress properly. Our churches are important and I feel that they will be alright with time and work. Until next month, so long, Dave. |
