In the most recent disaster in Haiti, I can see where what he said applies. If the Haitians had a better education system early on, perhaps their buildings would have been better constructed, and limited in the number of stories. A better building code and better regulation. The same thing would apply to the port facilites. The earthquake would have struck, but there would have been less devastation and loss of life.

I personally feel that any country wanting to be civilized must start with education. From that, a government and legal system can form. Everything has to start with education. It is obvious to me that the majority of Haitians are not educated even in the basics.

I am a Christian and with modern Christianity many churches sponser schools in the countries that permit them. A good way to aid the Haitians is to donate to churches that have schools in Haiti.

The churches would not only aid them, but teach them morally also. Morality is key to all levels of civilization; without morality no civilation could survive.
