Interview 55 © David C. Fowler 7/24/14 Finally the weather is warming up and the boat is drying out. When I got to the boat Manchester was there. We have had several "natural disasters" in our area (western Washington). The Oso land slide and the wildfire in the Lake Shasta area. I was asked by a friend, why our Heavenly Father allows people to die and suffer injuries from weather, fire and other natural disasters? So I asked Manchester. "Natural disasters have existed for millions of years, thousands of years for human kind. You have the intelligence and experience to observed history. Many of you insist on living in areas that have a history of dangerous weather, earthquakes, tornadoes, floods and sinkholes just to name a few. They have been in these areas for thousands of years. So why do you live, build homes and business there? When you do build there, you build structures that are vulnerable to these events. You could build homes and buildings in concrete and rebar, which would be much better in surviving high winds and fires. Some structures could be elevated if flooding occurs. In Mexico many homes have concrete roofs that are tied in to the walls and are not torn free from high winds. You have seen in news reports where fire has swept through areas with many homes, they show the devastation on the TV, and the chimneys are always standing, when will someone say why don't we make our homes from the same materials as the chimneys? With larger buildings some cities insist that they be earthquake proof. But many buildings were built earlier and they don't have that protection. I'm running out of time so we can continue next time." He vanished. |
