Interview 169 Copyright © David C. Fowler - Apr 2024 This month all of the news channels have demonstrators blocking freeways and occupying colleges with pop tents, barricades and climbing into class rooms. This reminds me of the time I was at the University of Washington (in Seattle not D.C.) During the Viet Nam war. Being fought over communism. The U. S. does not do well fighting wars over a belief system when the lines are not clear and the fighters are not wearing uniforms. I call it "invisible armies". We, the U. S. were not doing well. The "S.D.S." a communist organization "Students for a Democratic Society" decided that the U of W students should go on strike and leave the school in protest of the war. There were abought fifty demonstrators and they entered the school building, marching thru the classrooms chanting to end the war and asking the students to join them by leaving their room and marching to the next room. I joined them and found impowered by their numbers it was exciting marching around the buildings gathering students. After a while the police arrived wearing their "tac" gear carrying long night sticks with helmets and face mask, about twenty of them, I decided it was time to leave for dinner. I could see from the news reports that these demonstrators mostly women and they were presenting themselves as supporters of the Palestinians in this conflict. The way that they were dressed and behaving I wondered if they were members of Islam? They are arguing to free Palestine, are they followers of Islamic fundamentalism? I don’t think so. I wonder what Manchester has to say? "If They are not wearing a hijab or a abaya I do not think they are of the Islamic faith. So why are they so worked up about a people that are Islamic, the Palestinians? I dont think they would like living under Islamic rule, they would probably not be allowed to leave the house without a male family member to be with them, they would have their bodies covered with black hijab and a abaya. The Palestinians would not want their women to behave the way that these women are, in front of news cameras on U.S. TV." With that he vanished. |
