This month a woman named Kim Davis crowded into the news headlines because she would not allow her office to issue marriage licenses to anyone in order to block same sex couples from get marriage licenses. She told the press that her Christian beliefs prevented her from issuing the licenses. I felt that this would be a good question for Manshester the Angel.
I was relieved when I saw that familiar glow coming from the boat cabin. I have not seen him in about a month (during the summer I take the boat out sailing and Manchester does not like leaving the dock). I asked how he felt our Heavenly Father felt about modern day martyrs.
"Martyrs who risk criticism, injury, jail and their lives for their faith are engaged in helping others in the name of Christ. They are helping others - not interfering with other people's rights.
"Christ has removed the old laws that Moses had to follow. No one has the right to impose Old Testament laws meant for the Children of Israel on others who are not part of their church or religion.
"When Christ completed his mission on earth he removed those laws, so everyone could have salvation in the eyes of their creator in Heaven. Everyone can approach your Heavenly Father directly, no priest, no pastor, no rules or laws.
"I feel anyone who feels they need to impose their religious beliefs on others in a way interferes with their freedom or rights should spend more time reading Romans, Ch. 5/15-17, is always a good start.
"Your Heavenly Father wants you to be safe, happy and get along with others, its just that simple."
He vanished.
